The city of Buckeye has a storied past and was originally co-founded by the Clanton Clan, a family who enjoyed a long history of settling places in the West. Thomas Newt “TN” Clanton left for Arizona in 1877, leading a party of six men, three women and ten children from Creston, Iowa.
TN was beginning to experience numerous health complications and he wanted to move somewhere out West in the hopes the he could return to good health. It turned out to be a good move for TN as he settles in Buckeye, AZ and lived in Arizona for 49 years before his death at age 82.
